Kootenay Lake Information Paper

The International Kootenay Lake Board of Control (IKLBC) mandate and 1938 Order of Approval for Kootenay Lake (1938 Order) established a framework that has been used to manage Kootenay Lake for over 80 years. Many significant changes have occurred during this period, including the construction and operation of two large upstream dams that altered the hydrology and water quality, and the implementation of many actions in the Kootenay River Basin for flood risk management, improving the ecosystem and other considerations. This paper assembles factual information to support potential further research and study to inform the decision of whether to recommend a review of the 1938 Order.
