IJC Receives Progress Reports from Boards

Progress reports from IJC boards that work on issues along the shared waters between our two countries have been posted for public viewing. The IJC has also published its 2013 Activities Report, which sums up work on major projects from last year, and looks ahead to initiatives planned for 2014 and beyond.

Commissioners from Canada and the U.S., along with IJC staff, gathered from April 28-May 2 in Washington, D.C., for our Semi-Annual Meeting. It was an opportunity to meet face-to-face with board members from newly appointed Great Lakes boards, and others in watersheds from east to west.

Below, you can read Progress Reports submitted by our various boards, along with the IJC’s 2013 Activities Report. The latter chronicles a year that saw the appointment of two Canadian commissioners – Acting Chair Gordon Walker and Benoît Bouchard – and the completion of several projects.

Those included issuing a new order for Lake Osoyoos, recommendations on the International Upper Great Lakes Study (IUGLS), a revised plan for regulating the water levels of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, and Plans of Study for flood control on Lake Champlain, and the Richelieu and Souris rivers.

Those are only some of the details. You can read the full 18-page report online, and find various board progress reports below. The IJC’s next Semi-Annual is planned for this fall.  The latest Activities Report also includes a full staff list for our U.S. and Canadian section offices in Washington, D.C., and Ottawa, Ontario, and our Great Lakes Regional Office in Windsor, Ontario.

Here’s looking forward to another productive, cooperative year.
