International Souris River Boards to Host Public Meeting

International Souris River Boards to Host Public Meeting

The public is invited to attend presentations of the International Souris River Board and the International Souris River Study Board (ISRSB) on June 25, 2018, from 7:00 to 9:30 pm at the Days Inn in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Following a brief overview of the study and its progress, as well as updates on recent conditions and water management in the basin, the public will have an opportunity to pose questions and share its views with members of the two Boards.

The International Souris River Board was formed in 2002 to monitor and make recommendations on the apportionment of water between the United States and Canada, as well as other issues affecting the Souris River basin, such as drought, flooding, water quality, and ecosystem health.

The International Joint Commission (IJC) appointed the Study Board following a request by Canadian and United States governments on July 5, 2017 to complete the 2013 “Plan of Study for the Review of the Operating Plan Contained in Annex A of the 1989 International Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the United States of America.”

In its final report to the IJC in 2020, the Study Board will recommend potential measures to reduce the risk of flooding in the Souris River basin.

Public participation and feedback is an important consideration of both boards. Members of the public are encouraged to be involved by:
