Project Description

The project was a 4-year study to better understand stressors affecting water quality within the St. Croix River, and to undertake enhanced water quality monitoring in the river with a particular focus on understanding nutrient concentrations and distribution in the watershed. The project created a Water Stressor Pilot Index, which identified the most vulnerable areas of the watershed based on 12 different stress factors. Not only was this useful for assessing the St. Croix River watershed, but this Pilot Index can help identify the most vulnerable areas of other IJC transboundary watersheds.
