Engages the public and industry

Advisory Groups

The International Rainy Lake of the Woods Watershed Board engages the public and industry proactively to provide the most appropriate advice and information to the IJC and to the watershed’s stakeholders

A special feature of the International Rainy Lake of the Woods Watershed Board is that it has two advisory groups, the Community Advisory Group and the Industry Advisory Group, which have cross-cutting membership with the Board, meet annually with the Board and review many of its projects and documents. The Community and Industrial Advisory Groups have their fingers on the pulse of the watershed.

The Community Advisory Group has roughly equal membership from each country, representing all regions within the watershed, from Kenora, to Atikokan, from International Falls to Gunflint Lake, with Canadian and US Co-chairs.

The Industry Advisory Group also has roughly equal membership from each country, representing a range of industries within the watershed from agriculture, to forestry, to mining, and tourism, with Canadian and US Co-chairs.

The role of the advisory groups is to provide a voice to the Board from each group and assist in the dissemination of information to the general public.

The Board also has an Engagement Committee to coordinate its outreach activities.
