International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board Water Levels Committee to Host In-Person Public Meeting

Date

International Falls (MN) / Fort Frances (Ontario)

The International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board (IRLWWB) Water Levels Committee (Committee) will host a public meeting in International Falls, MN at the Minnesota North College- Rainy River Campus on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. CST. The Committee ensures that International Joint Commission orders for the operation of the dams on the Rainy River and outlets of Namakan Lake are followed. The Committee is currently operating under a Temporary Order issued by the International Joint Commission that combines the standard rule curves and high flood risk rule curves into a single set of rule curves for Rainy Lake.

The public meeting will include a brief overview of water regulation in the Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed and a recap of watershed conditions and forecasts discussed at the February 29, virtual information session. There will also be an opportunity for participants to ask questions and share their observations on winter conditions in the watershed. Watershed observations and forecasts discussed at the meeting will support the regulation strategy that will be initiated by the Committee on March 10, 2024.
