Dam Operators to Resume Normal Operations for Rainy Lake
During the month of April the Water Levels Committee of the International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board directed the operators of the international dam on the Rainy River at Fort Frances-International Falls to target the lowest 10 cm (4 in) of the Rule Curve band on Rainy Lake. Dam operators have successfully complied.
Owing largely to below normal temperatures throughout April, the refill of Rainy and Namakan Lakes began later than in most years. Flows in most tributary areas are normal or below normal for this time of year and the near and medium-term forecasts have below-normal precipitation. The Water Levels Committee has therefore directed the dam operators to resume normal operations for Rainy Lake and target the middle portion of the Rule Curve range as of May 1st.
