A newly formed International Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board is holding its first public meeting and open house, and you’re invited.
Those who live in the basin should mark their calendar for Tuesday, Aug. 20, in International Falls, Minnesota, or Wednesday, Aug. 21, in Kenora, Ontario.
The agenda includes a presentation by the new Board on items including dam operations, and an opportunity to meet Board members and IJC staff, ask questions, and express concerns.
These are the first public meetings of the new Board, which combines the IJC’s former International Rainy River Water Pollution Board and the International Rainy Lake Board of Control.
The new board is made up of 20 people (equally from Canada and the U.S.), and was created in April to assist with binational coordination of water quality efforts for the transboundary watershed, and the management of the water levels and flows on the Rainy River and Rainy Lake.
The Aug. 20 Minnesota meeting starts with an open house at 6:30 p.m., followed by a public meeting at 7:30 p.m., both at The Theater at Rainy River Community College.
The Aug. 21 Ontario meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. with an open house, followed by a public meeting at 2:30 p.m., both at the Cascade Room at the Best Western in Kenora.
For more information, see the Board Activities page.
Please pass on the announcement on to interested friends and colleagues. We’d like all interested people to be aware of the meetings.
If you’re interested in getting involved, the newly combined board is seeking nominations for its Industry Advisory Group and a separate Citizens Advisory Group. The groups will provide a forum for industry representatives and citizens to provide perspectives on board activities related to water management and water quality.
To make a nomination (or apply), contact either Board secretary:

We hope to see you there.
