Description
A Reference to examine and report on how the consumptive use and removal of water, diversions, and management and policies regarding water resources affect the levels, flows, and sustainability of water supplies in transboundary basins.
Outcome
The federal, state and provincial governments are using the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the IJC's 2000 and 2004 reports as they address the many issues related to water use in the Great Lakes basin.
The governments asked the IJC to review its recommendations again at 10 - year intervals unless conditions dictate a more frequent review. The governments have not responded to the IJC's recommendation that they consider adopting a plan of work for the IJC on the rest of the border beyond the Great Lakes.
