Description
A Reference to define the framework for operating international watershed boards as recommended by the Commission in its 1997 report, The IJC and the 21st Century.
Outcome
In a 2005 Discussion Paper on the International Watersheds Initiative, the IJC recommended that the Governments of Canada and the U.S. confirm their support for the IJC's International Watersheds Initiative pilot projects in the St. Croix River, Red River and Rainy River and support the IJC's International Watersheds Initiative by providing funds to undertake the proposed projects. Under this reference, the IJC is developing and implementing the International Watershed Initiative as set out in the Commission's report of June 8, 2005.
