Description
A Reference to investigate the causes and effects of flooding in the Red River Basin.
Outcome
The IJC concluded in 2000 that large floods can be expected to occur in the future and stated that the people and property of the Red River basin will remain at undue risk until comprehensive and integrated binational solutions are implemented. It offered specific recommendations for governments at all levels to execute. On-going flood-related activities were assigned to the International Red River Board which works with governments to ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place for certain flood preparedness and mitigation activities and to implement the recommendations in the IJC's 2000 report.
