The levels of Rainy and Namakan Lakes are regulated in accordance with lake
level operating bands specified by the International Joint Commission (IJC).
The operating band levels vary seasonally. Under the IJC Order issued in
January 2000, Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. and Boise Cascade Corp. normally
regulate these lakes so as to target for levels in the middle portion of the
operating band. The Board monitors the companies' operations and may provide
direction from time to time.
