Herb Gray, Canadian IJC Chair appointed to Order of Canada as Companion

On August 5, 2003, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, announced new appointments to the Order of Canada. Among those receiving appointments was the Canadian Chair of the International Joint Commission, the Right Honourable Herb Gray, PC, QC. He was appointed at the highest level as a Companion of the Order.

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour. It is Canada's highest honour for lifetime achievement. Three different levels of membership - Companion, Officer and Member - honour people whose accomplishments vary in degree and scope. Only 165 people can hold the Companion designation at any one time.

Meet the Right Hourourable Herb Gray at the International Joint Commission's 2003 Great Lakes Conference and Biennial Meeting to be held September 19-20 on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor. The IJC is planning two full days of workshops on some of the most pressing issues facing the Great Lakes today, reports from Great Lakes Advisory Boards, public comment and discussion, and a special session on Saturday September 20th entitled Restoring the Greatness. During this session, several groups with new visions and restoration plans for the Great Lakes will present their plans during a professionally moderated session of information and public discussion. This is a special opportunity to have your views heard by senior and respected leaders in the basin.
