GREAT LAKES WATER QUALITY AGREEMENT PUBLIC CONSULTATION REFERENCE

  1. Commissioners approved a proposed schedule of, and locations for, public consultation meetings; additional members of an advisory group; and the proposed text of a brochure, which will be provided to governments for their comment.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION

  1. Commissioners approved a USD$5,000 sponsorship of the 14th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species to enable full IJC participation on this issue of major concern to the Commission and approved the proposed abstract with the understanding that Commissioners would submit any comments individually.

  2. Commissioners approved submission by August 15, 2005, of an expression of interest for the 4th World Water Forum and pursuit of a Commission role commensurate with that of the 3rd World Water Forum, with an expectation of fewer participants but sufficient to carry out the role. Commissioners agreed to discuss Commission participation in the Great Lakes of the World IV Conference after reviewing a proposal currently being explored with the Great Lakes Fishery Commission.

MINUTES

  1. Commissioners approved minutes of the June 30, 2005 and July 18, 2005 conference calls, the latter with minor corrections.

APPOINTMENTS

  1. Commissioners approved the re-appointment of Cheryl Lewis as a member of the Canadian Section of the Council of Great Lakes Research Managers for a further three-year term retroactive to July 1, 2005.

  2. Commissioners approved the appointment of Dr. Janet Keough as a member of the U.S. Section of the Council of Great Lakes Research Managers for a term of three years commencing August 1, 2005.

RETREAT

  1. Commissioners approved a two-day retreat for Commissioners and Secretaries to be held in Montebello, Quebec, September 13-14 with discussions to include transboundary air issues, Commission advice regarding governments' Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement review, the Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Study, and the Watershed Initiative. Commissioners further agreed to seek a facilitator and in-person participation from the Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Study Board Co-Chairs.

COMMISSIONERS' UPDATES

  1. Commissioners provided updates on recent meetings and events, including in the Lake-of-the-Woods and Rainy Lake region and numerous public meetings of the Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Study Board.
