The International Joint Commission announces that it has selected Milwaukee, WI as the site of its 1999 Biennial Forum on Great Lakes Water Quality. The theme of partnerships and progress in cleaning up the Great Lakes will be the focus of the meeting to be held September 24-26, 1999. The Rivers Curriculum Project of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) will conduct its sixth annual summer training at North Park University in Chicago, IL, July 19-24, 1998 and at SIUE August 2-7, 1998. To increase scientific literacy through river study and promote interdisciplinary teaching, participants will focus on one of the six curriculum unit areas: biology, chemistry, earth science, geography, language arts and mathematics, while receiving interdisciplinary training in all.

The Alberta Lake Management Society is host to the 18th International Symposium of the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS), November 10-13, 1998 at the Banff Springs Hotel, Banff, AB. The central theme of the symposium is cooperative lake and watershed management: linking communities, industry and government. In light of fiscal realities of the 1990s, the symposium provides a forum to discuss the benefits and challenges of developing management solutions that involve all stakeholder groups.
