GREEN '96, a benchmark occasion for the Global Rivers Environmental Education Network, will focus on "Educating for Sustainable Watersheds." Human Interactions with the Environment: Perspectives from Space, is a Pecora 13 Symposium to be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from August 20-22, 1996. The International Joint Commission's Great Lakes Water Quality Board will hold its 1996 public meeting in Rochester, New York on October 18-19, 1996.

The Great Lakes Water Quality Board and the Water Resources Board of New York State will hold concurrent business meetings on Friday, October 18. That afternoon the two Boards will meet together with the public to discuss local issues related to water quality and watershed management in upstate New York.

On Saturday, October 19 the Great Lakes Water Quality Board will cosponsor a Finger Lakes-Lake Ontario Conference with the Finger Lakes-Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance. The conference will focus on place-based and community-based approaches to water quality and watershed management. Emphasis will be on practical experiences linking environment and economy in management, achieving "win-win" solutions and applying successful consensus-based approaches in local decisionmaking processes. State, federal and international governmental officials, agricultural producers, recreational users, environmentalists, lakeshore and watershed residents, scientists and researchers, developers, resource managers and business owners across the region are encouraged to register. The program will provide ample opportunity for registrant participation. Facilitated break-out group discussions will be included to improve communication and understanding among stakeholders, and to elicit ideas on action plans for place-based watershed management.

The 1996 State of the Lakes Ecosystem Conference (SOLEC) will be held on November 6-8, 1996 at the Cleary International Centre in Windsor, Ontario.
