| | On behalf of the Great Lakes Science Vessel Coordination Steering Committee, we are pleased
to invite you to the Third Annual Great Lakes Science Vessel Coordination Workshop, to be
held February 17-18, 1999 at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research, University
of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario.
| Over the past two years, U.S. and Canadian scientists, research managers and vessel operators have found the workshop to be a valuable forum for discussing the coordination needs of their vessel management and operations activities. Through facilitated small group discussion, attendees have crafted and refined an Action Plan to promote - through enhanced communication and cooperation - the more efficient and cost effective use of the Great Lakes Science Vessel resources. Among other products, a comprehensive descriptive inventory of the Great Lakes Science Vessel fleet has been completed and work has begun on a related website. The Third Annual Great Lakes Science Vessel Workshop will again bring together the science, management and operations professionals to discuss important science vessel coordination issues and to gauge progress on implementing recommendations from the Action Plan. The focus will be on practical and pragmatic measures for enhanced coordination and cooperation. For example, how can we better communicate and share equipment and other resources to maximize capability and what is the optimal institutional arrangement that will enhance operational efficiency of the Great Lakes science vessel fleet? These and other questions will be addressed on a lake-by-lake and system-wide basis. Please mark your calendar for the February 17-18, 1999 workshop; and complete and return the registration form (PDF file). A registration fee of $95 (U.S.), ($135 Canadian) will provide for all meeting materials, coffee breaks, one luncheon and an evening reception on February 17. A preliminary program is available. We value your expertise and hope that you will be able to attend. Also, please share this letter with colleagues involved with the science, operations or management aspects of vessel-based research and monitoring programs. If you have questions, please contact one of us at the phone numbers or Email addresses at the bottom of this letter. Thank you for your interest; we look forward to seeing you on February 17-18.
Sincerely, |
