RAPs and LaMPs: Industrial and Municipal Contributions to Restoration
Workshop from 9:00 a.m. - 12 noon
The IJC will conduct a workshop on Lakewide Management Plans (LaMPs) and
Remedial Action Plans (RAPs) that is devoted to an examination of industry
and municipality efforts to restore and maintain the chemical, physical and
biological integrity of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem. Directed to a wide
array of participants from industry, municipalities, agencies, and individuals
involved in their communities, the goal of this workshop is to share and discuss
the diverse restoration, protection, and decision-making activities underway in
the basin. Traditionally, progress reporting has been limited to contaminated
sediment removal and management and focused on federal government agency efforts.
This workshop, part of an ongoing IJC priority effort to continually monitor and
assess efforts under Annex 2 of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, will explore
the efforts by various industries and municipalities in regards to planning and
implementing activities to restore and protect beneficial uses. These presentations
will further enhance our understanding of the benefits that can be derived by
encouraging necessary remedial actions by all sectors.
