GREAT LAKES ADVISORY BOARD PRESENTATIONS
Sunday, November 2, 1997

L.H. Legault, Chairman, Canadian Section, IJC

... Chairman of the Canadian Section of the IJC. I trust you all enjoyed last night's dinner and what I thought was a very impressive presentation by our two distinguished guest speakers. We're going to move directly into presentations by our Boards. We have four boards, as you know. Each will have 30 minutes for their presentation. Each is allowed time at the end of the presentation for questions and discussion. We will hear first from our Water Quality Board, then the Council of Great Lakes Research Managers, followed by the International Air Quality Advisory Board, and last by not least, our Great Lakes Science Advisory Board.

Some of the presentations this morning will be French, so we encourage you to pick up a head set from the interpretation folks at the booths at the back of the room. I am going to turn the floor over now to the Water Quality Board. I have the pleasure to introduce Vic Shantora, Dave Ullrich, Tracy Mehan, Kelly Burch and John Hartig. Gentlemen, would you proceed with your presentation?

I would like to just for a minute continue on what Tim introduced which is to mention the gratitude and thanks to the Boards for their presentations this morning. I think you can see from the depth and the breadth of the presentations that the Boards are truly the eyes and ears of the International Joint Commission. They are our best links to all kinds of communities, to governments, to scientific experts, and most importantly to the public. So on behalf of all the Commission, I want to thank the Boards for their ongoing work and for their presentations today. Thank you very much.

It is also my pleasure to reopen the Public Comment Period this afternoon. I know we are running very late and our staff wants me to let you know that the restaurant is still open for those that can't miss lunch. We would like to continue our work here this morning. We are anxious to hear from all of you who have signed cards to speak. We want to say that we appreciate the respect that all the speakers have been given in the course of these two days. We're looking forward to a very good afternoon of communication with you.

Our first presentation this afternoon will proceed the open microphone and public comment period. It is my honour to introduce Maxine Cole and the First Nations and Native Americans who are going to speak to the Commission and to the audience that's here. Welcome, we are looking forward to your presentation. After that, we will begin the process of hearing the public's comments and that will be orchestrated from the cards that you have all signed. Thank you. Welcome. We are anxious to hear from you.
