18 août 2006 - Mme Sally A. Sessler, Sandy Creek, New York

I am a Private Landowner on the Eastern Shore of Lake Ontario. My property includes shoreline on the Lake. I am in the Town of Sandy Creek in Oswego County, in the North Rainbow Shores Tract.

I have read over the latest Ripple Effects. From the choices of the Plans given, I would have to support keeping the 1958 plan with deviations. I'm really not happy with any of the plans presented. All the plans harm the shoreline property owners. With all the public meetings and landowner comments, I do not feel you listened to the landowners concerns, especially the substantial economic impact due to loss of property values, resulting in lower tax revenues to local government.

I feel that the lake level should be allowed to go to a lower level when it occurs naturally. Every time the level goes a little below the long term average, the Board retains water to keep the level artificially higher. In my opinion this is for shipping interests and recreational boaters. Areas of the Lake and inlets could be dredged instead of keeping the Lake level higher.

I am in the area where there used to be beautiful sand dunes. I would like to see lower lake levels to help rebuild the beaches and sand dunes. With the present four foot range of lake levels, it is somewhat acceptable, however erosion occurs at the higher end of the range if there is extended wave action on the beaches. Again, we never see the lower end of this four foot range as levels are kept artificially higher.

As a former member of PIAG, I was a participant in many of the meetings and studies, so I do have some understanding of the system. I am still concerned that the Landowners voices are not being heard.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
