25 juin 2006 - Le très révérend Michael H.H. Bedford-Jones, Newcastle (Ontario)

I have just completed my sixty-fourth summer as a resident of Mudlunta Island, Admiralty Group, 1000 Islands, near Gananoque, Ontario, Canada. I represent the fourth generation of my family to do so, and there are at least a fifth and sixth generation on the island.

I say this since I am well aware of the impact of water levels over the years both personally, and through stories from my forebearers. I well remember times, especially when I was young, when water levels were so high that the water was well over our docks and we had to use catwalks. There was obviously damage to property and shoreline. Other years brought quite low water, so that at times it ws difficult to bring certgain boats into our dock and boathouse.

Thus I have valued the relatively stable water levels over the past several years. I hear with some alarm accounts of quite low water in the upper lakes. I also am concerned by the periodic plans to divert significant amounts of water from the lakes for irrigation or other reasons.

I have endearvoured to understand the implications of the various options, and now I write to express my strong support for Plan A+ which I believe will provide the best chance of water level stability. I would be concerned about the danger of the possibility of Plan B+ I realize that each of the options has an up and a downsize, but for environment and ecological reasons, as well as serving the human population of this area of the St. Lawrence River, Plan A+ is the best option.

This is a critical issue, and I hope the commission gives strong consideration to the arguments in favour of Plan A+
