Deteriorating Lake Erie Water Quality Focus of IJC Report

Windsor, ON – On Thursday, February 27, 2014, the International Joint Commission will release the report of the Lake Erie Ecosystem Priority – A Balanced Diet for Lake Erie:  Reducing Phosphorus Loadings and Harmful Algal Blooms.  The report includes 16 specific recommendations for governments at all levels in Canada and the U.S. to help address the challenge of deteriorating water quality in Lake Erie. The report was prompted by the record algal bloom in 2011 and more than 60 scientists from both countries have been working on this analysis for the past two years.
