WATER LEVEL PREDICTION WORKSHOP

during IAGLR’s 58th Annual Conference on Great Lakes Research

MILDRED LIVAK ROOM

WEDNESDAY, MAY 27, 2015

3:40 TO 5:40 PM

The workshop will focus on the future of a binational, real-time flood forecasting and inundation mapping system for Lake Champlain and the Richelieu River.

You will:

  • learn about the new high-resolution water level predictions based on coupled atmosphere, hydrology and hydrodynamic models, and other models being considered;
  • contribute to a peer discussion on the approaches for future water level forecasting on a trans-boundary lake-river system; and
  • share their experience and knowledge and contribute to the future direction of lake level forecasting.

And join the discussion on:

The importance and challenge of incorporating seiche effects into a hydrodynamic model of Lake Champlain to account for wave action.

How vertical datum corrections for critical gages and structures are performed on both sides of the border to achieve a seamless vertical datum.

How a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from LiDAR datasets along the Lake Champlain and Richelieu River is coupled with a 2D hydraulic model.

How the hydraulic model is used to create flood inundation maps under a variety of water inputs and wind scenarios.
