September 12, 2006 - Mr. Bill Lamphere, Sandy Pond, New York

I'm a permanent resident living on the waterfront at Sandy Pond, N.Y. As we know, the boating season is very short, but doesn't have to be as short as it is. It appears that every year around the first of August the water level starts to drop on a regular basis. By labor day the water level is so low on Sandy Pond that many of us have to take our boats out of the water for the season. If we didn't, they would be stuck in the mud. Not only does this affect the residents, but also the business sector. My question is simple. If the water level has to be dropped, why can't the commission start the process some time after labor day? Understand that those of us who own waterfront property are assessed more than those who do not, yet we get nothing more for our tax dollars. Given this you can understand my question and frustration.
