July 9, 2006 - Ms. Margaret Dochoda, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Wolfe Island, Ontario

1. In reading LOSLR Study Board recommendations in "Ripple Effects", I wondered if the Board had taken into account the effects of freshwater outflow on Atlantic fisheries and on European climate. I understand that the last time large amounts of fresh water were released (glacier and ice dam melt via Mackenzie and St. Lawrence Rivers) Atlantic fisheries and European climate were impacted. I am wondering if St. Lawrence River outflow can be managed in any way to counter negative impacts of climate change via Arctic and Greenland ice melt.

2. The Board's apparent attention to flow and wetland needs of fish and other aquatic organisms (based on my superficial read, anyway!) is pleasing. The connecting waters--the St. Marys, Detroit, St. Clair, Niagara, and St. Lawrence Rivers--are second to none for fish productivity and unique aquatic communities.

Thank you for opportunity to comment.
