July 11, 2008 — Ms. Joan A. Welch, Mexico, New York

To whom it may concern:

The recent discussion of raising the water level 2 feet on Lake Ontario is very disturbing to those of us who own lakefront property. My husband and I have owned camp in Mexico, N.Y. for 17 years and are very concerned about this proposition. I beg you NOT to raise the water level, as it will have negative consequences to our property, as well as to the entire Lake Ontario coastline properties. If the water level is raised, the waves will virtually destroy our home, since it sits approximately 20 feet from the shore. We've enjoyed these past 17 years with our children, family and friends, and want to look forward to the future on beautiful Lake Ontario. Surely there is another alternative to what you're proposing. Think of the long range consequences to the small towns that we, as taxpayers, help support; in particular, their education system. As a teacher in Syracuse, N.Y., I'm well aware of the financial burden that schools are faced year after year. I know that towns like Mexico, Pulaski, etc. all depend on our taxes to help educate their children. Please do not destroy our lakefront nor impact our children's educational future.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Joan A. Welch
Mexico, N.Y. camp owner
