Plan for Regulation of Lake Ontario Water Levels

I am writing to voice my concern that the International Joint Commission proposal, concerning new Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River water levels in Lake Ontario, threatens Our Cootes Paradise wetlands in Hamilton. Since these wetlands are both extensive and unique, maintenance of appropriate levels during all seasons is of vital importance.

It is my understanding that Tys Theysmeyer, of the Royal Botanical Gardens, believes that the proposed rules will be very harmful to the Cootes Paradise wetland. I hope his views will be given careful consideration before final rules are determined.

The significance of these wetlands extends beyond Ontario and impacts citizens of both Canada and the United States.

Sincerely,
John Hanna
