July 25, 2006 - Mr. Joseph Douglas Wahl, Rochester, New York

At 53 years old I have been a life long resident of Long Pond in the Town of Greece. I have owned my residence for 25 years, and my family has owned property on Long Pond since 1903. I have had a first hand view of the various water levels both thru personal observations as well as family historical pictures. I am a strong advocate of higher water levels. I have seen first hand how the lower water has a detrimental effect on the marshlands that abound Long Pond as well effecting boating access and water flow through the canal into Lake Ontario. Along the areas of the pond that aren't residential, the marshes are drying up creating an evasive weed structure. Also with the low water levels, the access to the lake is clogged with sand which does not allows for fish access to spawn, and for free flowing water. I have also noticed this year in particular with the lost levels, that evasive weed structure is developing in areas where this has never happened. Again - As a water front reisdent, I am a proponent of higher water levels.
