September 14, 2006 - Mr. Michael Knight, Bath, Ontario
Dear Sir:
I sincerely hope there will be changes to the existing 1958-D regulations. It needs to be updated to more fairly recognize the increased usage by other parties. I understand the importance of the commercial shipping and recognize the need to protect the environment. However, there has been little effort to recognize the needs of other groups. I hope your commission will select a new plan that will benefit everyone.
I live on Lake Ontario and was forced to take my boat out last week as the water levels dropped significantly. Obviously, the plug had been pulled, as it usually is in August. I know there will be many wonderful days for boating over the next 6 weeks but once the levels are arbitrarily dropped, come August, my boating days are numbered. It is interesting that my neighbour has a dock that years ago used to handle a 26 foot sailboat and now there is barely 1 foot of water. I hope your negotiations will consider the plight of the 1000's of recreational boaters like myself.
I think there can be stability with new regulations. However, I think the current technology allows regulation of the water levels to be monitored and adjusted on a daily basis. Further, I believe that seasonal use can be extended without risking higher levels during the fall storm season. I wish your commission guidance to make changes that will blend Plan A and B for the benefit of the majority.
