July 24, 2006 - Ms. Mary Testa, Hilton, New York

After readying the study plans several times, it is apparent that goal of the 3 proposed plans are to increase economic revenue and address environmental concerns while leaving the property owners at risk therefore, I propose keeping the current plan 1958-DD. While the 3 plans outline the damage to all interests and try to spread the lost revenue across the board, I feel that as a home owner our loss could result in permanent damage and not a mere "inconvenience" as it is with other interests such as boating and a shorter season. The 3 plans propose to keep the lake level high during the spring and fall which is the storm season. As a property owner, at our own expense, we will need to erect higher break walls to hold the storm surge back. While I am not opposed to reinforcing my break wall and realize that as a lake owner this is routine maintenance, I am opposed to looking out my window and seeing stones instead of the beautiful majestic lake that I see now. I am also opposed to decreasing my property value and I am sure Monroe County would be against decreasing my tax base. The plans use data models that are based on "theory" and have no proven foundation; they are predications of what could take place on the lake. As a person who lives on the lake I can reassure you it is very unpredictable and with current plan 1958-DD the lake has become relatively stable and predictable. Please, when considering each plan do not forget about the one resource that is truly the environment, the humans and our desire and right to live in an area that is beautiful, safe and stable. Thank you for providing a forum in which my comments could be expressed and considered when making your decision.

(Added on July 25) Our local newspaper just published an article stating that plan D+ is the best for shoreline owners. I would like to state that I support the plan that best protects the shoreline property interests. Thank you.
