September 15, 2006 - Mr. Thomas Barlow, Rochester, New York

The current plan 1958D has provisions (criterion) that help the Control Board manage the threat of extended periods and averages of high water. As I understand none of the current plans under review have provisions that would keep the lake level from sustaining periods of high water which are most likely to threaten the riparian interests on the south shore. As a south shore resident we all have gone through the expense and effort to do what is necessary to keep our property safe based on where the current water levels are maintained. If any new policy were to be adopted that could increase the water level, where it would then become a threat to the riparian interests, provisions (time and money) must be made ahead of time to give the property owners the opportunity to be proactive to the high water threat. A wait and see attitude on the potential damage of the high water would force the riparian interests to then have to react once the threat has reared itself and place an unnecessary burden on the property owners and the communities around them.
